Time Sound: Memories in Albina
Directed by Tahirah Memory
DJ Jumbo

Time Sound: Memories in Albina unfolds as a reflection on music, memory, and place. Directed by Tahirah Memory, the concert is grounded in the legacy of her father, Grammy-winning trumpeter and composer Thara Memory, who helped establish the Time Sound concert series in 1981. Spanning generations, the Memory family’s music reflects life along N. Albina Street, where personal history and Black Portland’s cultural heartbeat meet.

Blending jazz, rhythm and blues, orchestral music, and soul, this intergenerational performance traces a living lineage through one bloodline. Drawing from Albina Music Trust’s community archive alongside Tahirah’s original compositions, the concert brings past and present into conversation through storytelling, visual history, and a dynamic ensemble of regional musicians.

Rooted in the work of Albina’s musical elders and carried forward through new voices, Memories in Albina continues the Time Sound tradition—preserving a living archive and inviting it into the present through a singular, one-time performance.
